Generic OBINUTUZUMAB / Brand GAZYVA 1000mg / 40mL Injection Vial is used for treating certain types of blood cancer / leukemia (such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, follicular lymphoma). This medicine belongs to a class of drugs also known as monoclonal antibodies. Obinutuzumab / Gazyva medicine works by targeting the CD20 antigen on normal and malignant (cancerous) B-cells. This medicine helps the body's natural immune system by recruiting the cells to attack and kill the marked B-cells. Stem cells or young cells in the bone marrow which will develop into the various types of cells do not have the CD20 antigen; thereby allowing healthy B-cells to regenerate after treatment.
Patient Package Inserts (PPI), Medication Guides (MG), and Instructions for Use (IFU) are paper handouts that come with many prescription medicines. The guides address issues that are specific to particular drugs and drug classes, and they contain FDA-approved information that can help patients use the medicine safe and effectively and try to avoid serious adverse events. Not all medicines have patient information and if you have questions about your medicines you should always talk with your Healthcare Provider or Pharmacist.
Medication Guides are developed by the manufacturer, approved by the FDA, and required to be given to consumers each time the medication is dispensed.
